Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? [Matt 7:7-11]
He has the very best gifts in store for us, and invites us to seek them out so that we will appreciate them when we find them or he presents them to us. Many have this view that he plans to condemn all but a select few. The revelations to the prophet Joseph Smith deny this view:
And they who remain shall also be quickened; nevertheless, they shall return again to their own place, to enjoy that which they are willing to receive, because they were not willing to enjoy that which they might have received. For what doth it profit a man if a gift is bestowed upon him, and he receive not the gift? Behold, he rejoices not in that which is given unto him, neither rejoices in him who is the giver of the gift. [D&C 88:32-33]God is our Loving Father in heaven and if we are condemned it is because we'd knowingly reject the gift he offers us and stop our own progress.

Take your gift & run with it. God given talents are the most divine and precious and if we do not nurture and cater to them, it is better that we do not have any at all.
